Kate Butler is an American artist, ceramicist, writer and educator based in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia, on the unceded land of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurung. She holds an MFA in Fine Art and MS in Art History from the Pratt Institute, and has also studied at the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing.

Her ceramic work, the focus of her practice in recent years, encompasses a  landscape of forms evoking architectural motifs and natural phenomena like clouds, forests, the stars and moon. Cosmic in character and yet intimate in form and scale, they speak to the mystic interdependence of nature and the human imagination.
