Kate Butler is an NYC-based artist, educator and arts writer. Attracted to the mediums of ceramics and drawing for their immediate, tactile qualities, she creates work born of a dialogue between her internal rhythms and those of nature. Many of her drawings and sculptures reference natural phenomena balanced in a state of flux.
Kate was raised in North Carolina and studied at The Marchutz School in Aix-en-Provence, France, before earning her MFA in Fine Arts and MS in Art History from the Pratt Institute. A 2021 - 22 resident teaching artist with Project Art USA (NYC), she also teaches at Clayhouse Brooklyn, Brooklyn Clay Industries and GooseGrease House for the Arts. She makes her own ceramic work at Wedge, a studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
