Kate Butler is an NYC-based artist and educator. Her drawings and sculptures, in their invocations of movement through static, tactile means, speak to the desire to physically connect with the fleeting, phenomenal world. Her ceramic lighting and objects reflect her artistic preoccupations with tactility, organic movement and reflective light.
Kate was raised in North Carolina and studied at The Marchutz School in Aix-en-Provence, France, before earning her MFA in Fine Arts and MS in Art History from the Pratt Institute. She teaches at the Brooklyn Waldorf School and ProjectArt in addition to leading hand-building/sculpture classes for adults at Clayhouse Brooklyn. She makes her ceramic work out of Wedge, a studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She is moving with her partner to Melbourne, Australia in August 2022.
